NYC trip

Today has been just plain awesome. Woke up earlier than usual (beating my alarm) to get on the train to NYC. Upon arrival in GCT, Heather and I were surprised to see a blimp light (no clue if that's what it's actually called, but hell if I care). Upon some further investigation, we found out that they were shooting for a movie in the main concourse. We found out it was Step Up 3, which might just be in 3D, since they had a 3D focus board. It was pretty cool to be able to see the behind-the-scenes stuff first-hand.
After our curiosity waned, we headed out to the Nintendo World Store, which never fails to make me happy. They had a little screen where people could talk to Mario. That was pretty cool, but Heather didn't appreciate it much when I told her that I figured out how it worked. Oh well. Live and learn.
Next stop on the adventure was the NBC store. Thankfully, all the Eureka merch was still marked with the SciFi logo instead of SyFy. Heather got me the GD (Global Dynamics) shirt I had been eyeing for the past couple of years. Thank you, honey!
We then wandered into the Metropolitan Museum of Art store and saw some really cool statues and stuff that was a bit too expensive for is to take home. D:
From there we went across the street to Saint Patrick's Cathedral. Upon entering, Heather was wowed by the beautiful arches and columnades. It took us a second to realize that we had just walked in as a young couple was saying their vows. That was actually pretty cool to see. And a little romantic.
Next stop was the Disney store. Of course it was pretty cool. I got Heather a giant Stitch plush and a little Stitch figure with him dressed as Yoda.
From there we wandered up to the Apple store and entered the cavern of sweaty Mac-addicts. It is pretty cool in there but it's just too freaking crowded to function as a store.
After the Apple store (and a very brief jaunt into FAO Schwartz), we headed up into Central Park. We wandered through where the artists hang out and then through the zoo area. Further in, we started to hear some hip hop music being performed live, so we decided to investigate. Turns out there was a Q-Tip concert going on. That was pretty cool to hear because it wasn't the modern gangsta rap, but more old school hip hop. Venturing further into the park, we got up to the fountain by the lake that was used in Enchanted. Sweet!
Then, we found the one place that would have killed me if I moved away without visiting: Strawberry Fields. We visited the shrine to John Lennon and paid our respects to him.
Then, it was time to head back downtown. We made a quick stop at the CBS store, to find that there wasn't any The Big Bang Theory stuff. Lame. So, we left.
And, went to Ellen's Stardust Diner for dinner. It was just plain awesome. I'd never even noticed it sitting across the street from Mars 2112, and now I'm kinda pissed I never knew about it. Where else can you go and have good food served by Broadway hopefuls singing and performing music from stage shows and classic albums? Hell, they even sang some Queen (sorry, [info]dino_rider, but it wasn't Can't Stop Us, or whatever that song is called).
After eating we went to the M&M World store and wandered for a while in there.
Then, I stopped to say hello to someone I can never go to NYC without seeing: the Toys R Us Tyrannosaurus rex. Over in the special area they had a huge Optimus Prime standing there, so I took a picture of Heather with him.
That was the end of the day, so we headed back to GCT to catch a train home. And they were still filming the movie there. We grabbed a couple of drinks at Hudson News and jumped on the train. And that's where I'm sitting writing this.
Today was just an awesome day. I got to spend it with the woman I'm madly in love with and that's really all I needed. I have a feeling that I'm going to be on Cloud Nine for a while now so I'm going to shut up.

Tyler gave me an idea: Rather than asking people individually, I'm going to query my LJ readers.

I recently got a game called Beats. It's a rhythm game that uses music in your library as the songs in the game. However, I need more music for the game as a good portion of my music isn't very conducive to rhythm games. So, lay it on me. Suggest away!

"Good things come to those who wait." I've lost track of how many times I've heard that saying. Hell, I even used to believe it. But, frankly, it's bullshit. Nothing good comes from waiting; if you want good things to happen, you've got to get out there and make them happen. Enough sitting on your ass waiting for that better life you always wanted. If you're not out there working to achieve that life, you don't really want it. I know you're thinking that it's not that easy, but I never said it would be. Acting on your desires is fucking hard, but if you don't you'll regret your inaction. You've got to take chances, too. Risk equals reward. The bigger the potential reward, the riskier it will be to achieve it. Take the risk and you might get burned, but there's also a chance that you'll make out pretty damn well. If people tell you that you can do better and that you're settling, that's because you can and you are. Stop settling, stop waiting, and most importantly stop bitching about how nothing good ever happens to you. You control your own destiny, so get out there and do something about it.

Today (technically yesterday now) was a day of firsts. It was the first time I've been to New York City on a weekday (that I can recall), the first time I've gone to a book release party, the first time I've seen live stand-up comedy, the first time I've seen a Guns N Roses cover band live, and the first time I've had street vendor food in Manhattan. Oh, it was also the first time I saw a celebrity I actually give a shit about (Joss Whedon - be jealous). I would like to say something insightful (and not inciteful) about this being part of the new Me, but nothing's really coming to mind. If I think of something later, I'll stick it here ( ) later. But, for now, I'm going to jusk bask in the awesomeness that was today (or yesterday, if you really want to be picky).
Also, Tyler and I have come up with a term for a group of Asian girls (like pride for lions and coven of witches): september. A september of Asian girls.

I've spent a good portion of my life trying to figure out what I want out of life. Trying to figure out what will make me happy. I think the only thing I have learned is that trying to figure that out doesn't make me happy. Sure, there are some things in life that some would say point out my direction in life, but are they the real deal? I've hidden the real me away for so long that I don't even know who I am. I become someone different in various situations, but mostly I'm just a pussy who will bend over backwards to make others happy at the sacrifice of my own happiness. Am I happy where I am? Not really, but I'm changing that. And, when I'm no longer bound by the fact that everyone in the community knows me, maybe I'll be able to find out who I really am.

Here're the answers to that previous meme entry that were not correctly guessed.

02. Eureka - Henry Deacon - He's probably one of the only people in Eureka who doesn't treat Jack like he's an idiot. There's respect there.
03. Heroes - Hiro Nakamura - A geek with the ability to manipulate the time-space continuum...that's like my dream.
04. Neon Genesis Evangelion - EVA Unit-01 - Mostly, this is for aesthetic reasons, but Petit Eva has made Unit-01 awesome in my mind.
05. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Ford "Ix" Prefect - Ford has always been a bit more downplayed and required much less special effects to make believeable.
06. Read or Die - Nenene Sumiregawa - An author surrounded by Paper Users. Also, she can sleep on a couch with no problem.
08. X-Men - Nightcrawler - He's always been the only X-Men character with a fully-developed personality and character, in my opinion.
09. Star Wars - Kit Fisto - Jamaican fish-dude with tentacle-dreads and a fierce lightsaber style. Thank you, Clone Wars, for introducing me to the awesomeness.
10. Pokemon - Deoxys - An alien being based on the concept of DNA, I'm sold right there.
11. Hellboy - Johann Kraus(s) - A disembodied smart-ass German/Austrian scientist with the ability to possess almost anything mechanical. XD
12. Metal Slug - Fiolina "Fio" Germi - Cute and deadly.
13. Firefly/Serenity - Hoban "Wash" Washburne - With his childish sense of humor, Wash brought warmth to Serenity. He was a leaf on the wind.
14. Fraggle Rock - Boober - From the hat and scarf and his outlook on life, how could one not enjoy this character?
15. Scrubs - Janitor - I've always enjoyed his position in the hospital, and I'm beginning to enjoy him even more in Season 8.
17. Discworld - Death - That's right, Death. The driest sense of humor and the coolest look together in one skeletal body.
18. Mega Man - Proto Man - Aloof and mysterious. Also, scarf. Scarf love.
20. Spider-Man - Herman "The Shocker" Schultz - He's been ignored by too many people. Gotta show the love to the one character who's got a 50-50 record against Spider-Man.

a. Post a list of 20 fandoms, current or (long) past.
b. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each one.
c. When guessed, bold the line, include the character name, and write a sentence about why you like that character.

Here be the list )

Sea Kitty Snugglerolls!

Me in the Morning
So, I had planned to spend tonight creating content for my site and studying my Welsh. Instead, I found myself watching the end of Star Wars being riffed by the guys from MST3K, then chatting on IRC about sea kittens. Productive? Not really. Pleh. Tomorrow night's not looking too hot either. But, maybe I'll pull it off.

The content I'm working on for my site is a review of Surfer, Dude and two Top 15 lists: traditionally animated movies and "Weird Al" Yankovic original songs.

If you read this, even if I don't speak to you often, post a memory of me!
It can be anything you want; it can be good or bad.
Then post this to your journal to see what people remember about you.

A little story from CS.com

Squirtle
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Deux

SC: “The fridge made this click and a pop, than there was a burning smell and smoke.”
Me: “Hmmm….ok, well-“
SC: “I’m looking at the manual here and it says that you may hear pops or clicks when you first plug it in….so that’s not. The compressor might make noise after defrosting when they expand and contract. But there was a burning smell too….”
Me: “Yes, that’s the problem. Its possible fire hazard.“
SC: “Do you think there might be a monster back there?”
ME: “Haha, probably not, no.”
SC: “No, seriously.”
Me: “……no. No there isn’t.”

Its amazing how one line can change the tone of the entire conversation. You know I’ve had appliances fail on me before too. I even had my fridge die a couple years back. But the possibility of monster invention as a probable cause never entered my mind. In fact I haven’t considered the possibility of monster invention as an explanation for anything since I was 6. Back than they were potentially responsible for just about anything from strange noises in the night to GI Joes that went MIA to waking up in the morning with bed head.

The worst part of this was she sounded seriously afraid. The possibility was utterly rational in her world. Though applying the word rational to it is a stretch.
